Northern Star Ocean Group

SUNDAY October 19th brought Slow Food Perth members and friends and family of Ian and Loretta Ricciardi, director of Northern Star Ocean Group together for Slow Food Perth’s Local Seafood event showcasing four of Northern Star’s products.
The Northern Star Ocean Group is a family owned Western Australian business who has been passionately involved in the fishing business for over 30 years. All their seafood is wild ocean caught, their produce is carefully selected and mostly used by the local market. They operate in the World Heritage listed waters of Shark Bay where stringent quality control procedures ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of the finest seafood.
Ian Ricciardi gave an interesting and thought provoking talk about fishing in the Shark Bay Heritage Area, and our well known chocolatier Sue Lewis, London trained chef prepared and cooked the exquisitely tasty produce, so that the product shone through. We had bugs cuttlefish, squid and prawns, all cooked in various ways to highlight their versatility and flavour. Dipping sauces, herb salad and bread from Daragh Grier’s Wild Bakery were some of the other food that shared the table with the piles of prawns that Ian had also offered to us.

Northern Star’s products can be bought from their office at 69 George Street, East Fremantle.
A huge thank you to Ian and Loretta Ricciardi for their generosity in supplying the seafood for this event and their donation to help with further funding to Pat Torres and Val Sibosado, our two indigenous Terra Madre delegates and their Indigenous Bush Food project. This project is the ongoing sole project of Slow Food Perth. Pat and Val have recently represented Slow Food Perth as delegates at Terra Madre.
Thank you Sue for the amazing tasty presentation, it was as many have said the highlight of the year.
