Taste of Balingup – Summer long table


WA’s top chefs set to descend on Balingup in a celebration of local farmers and community
February 7th sees the Summer Long Table return to Balingup for a 3rd year. Organiser, Katrina Lane says, “it’s the biggest year yet”. The evening will bring together some of WA’s top chefs, farmers and producers in a celebration of local food, as well as the farmers and families that produce it.
Over 8 courses (and matching drinks), the likes of David Coomer (Pata Negra / Xarcuteria), Sam Ward (el PUBLICO), Joel Valvasori-Pereza (Lalla Rookh) and Guy Jeffreys (Millbrook Winery), will delight diners as they collaborate with the regions best producers. Tom Van de Griendt of Newy’s Vegie Patch in Kirup is growing special tomato varieties for David Coomer, while Tom Wilde of Cambray Sheep Cheese is producing a small batch ricotta for Guy Jeffreys and Sam Ward. Just two examples of the collaborative spirit behind the event.
Organiser, Ms Lane (Taste of Balingup / Kate Lane Local Food / Food Land Culture) is well known for her work connecting farmers, producers, chefs and communities. She comments:
“Working alongside producers and farmers that are delivering some of the very best produce in the State, I wanted to introduce our best chefs to it. Over the years, the mutual respect shown and the enduring relationships that have been forged have surpassed my every expectation.”
“I come from a long line of farmers. My great grandparents were farmers in the town I was born and I had the good fortune to grow up knowing the life they knew. Seeing today’s farmers appreciated for what they do by those who cook what they grow and produce makes me very very happy.”
