SLOW Food Perth has started gathering information for the development and publication of a Slow Food Western Australian producers’ and food directory. The directory will be made available to the public.
To be considered for inclusion, producers and makers will have to demonstrate that their products are good, clean and fair under Slow Food guidelines.
Slow Food Perth is also considering the inclusion of chefs and restaurants using local good, clean and fair food and independent grocers who offer it for sale.
Slow Food Perth co-leader Pauline Tresise says the directory concept is based on the Osterie d’Italia family-run restaurant guide in Italy and The Slow Food Guide to New York City.
‘The need for a directory came home to us at Feast Perth in March 2007 during a public discussion panel which included Star Anise chef David Croomer,’ Pauline says.
‘One of the panellists referred to the availability of artisan-made sheep’s cheese from Nannup and David remarked that he was completely unaware of it. One of Slow Food’s aims is to link producers with consumers and chefs.
‘The Slow Food Perth Western Australian producers’ directory will provide chefs like David and consumers with ready information about the source of the best good, clean and fair local foods.’
Slow Food Perth plans to publish the directory late in 2011.
